All Lanes Opening to Traffic at SR 280/S Cobb Dr as Culvert Replacement Nears Completion
COBB -Georgia Department of Transportation subcontractors will reopen State Route (SR) 280/South Cobb Drive between Fairground Street SE and US 41/SR 3/Cobb Parkway Wednesday evening, weather permitting following an anticipated 60 day closure and detour for an emergency culvert replacement.
The need for the emergency culvert replacement was discovered on Saturday, March 9, 2024, when a washout occurred following a recent inclement weather event which included heavy rainfall. The former culvert was estimated to date back as far as the 1940s and had outlived its life expectancy.

Expect intermittent temporary lane closures as GDOT crews continue work in the coming weeks installing rumble strips, fencing alignment and final grassing. Among the final activities will be final striping, which is scheduled to be completed early June.

Georgia DOT continues to proactively work in close coordination with city and county officials as well as Dobbins Airforce Base and Lockheed Martin to ensure any remaining travel disruption is kept to a minimum. Before heading out, get real-time travel information on traffic conditions. Call 511GA, visit 511ga.org or download the 511 Georgia app on your mobile device.
