City Campground: Policy Revision

At their Jan. 25 meeting, the Pierre City Commission changed the Griffin Park campground policy to update length-of-stay parameters. The change was endorsed by the City's Parks and Recreation Board prior to City Commission approval.

Previously, policy allowed campers to stay at the campground for an unlimited amount of time. The new policy limits campers to 14 consecutive days at the campground.

"I think the advisory board felt that the change made us more consistent with the other campgrounds in the area," said Tom Farnsworth, Parks and Recreation Director. "It helps define the campground's intended use as a short-term stay area."

Some clarifying language was also added to the policy to make campers aware there is no water or bathroom amenities available between Nov. 1 and May 1.

The change is effective immediately.

The city has 16 RV spots available at the Griffin Park campground. There is no reservation system; the campground is first come, first serve. During peak season, water and a shower house are available to campers.

Camping privileges can be revoked for violation of ordinance or validated complaints.
