Denver Moves to Low/Green CDC Community Level Indicators

On. Aug. 4, 2022, Denver County moved from Medium/Yellow to Low/Green in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 Community Levels indicators. Per the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment's Public Health Order 20-38, face coverings may be required in places like non-medical congregate care settings (like correctional facilities or shelters for people experiencing homelessness) or healthcare settings during an outbreak and/or for any staff who are not fully vaccinated in times of low community transmission.

The CDC's Community Level indicators can help individuals make the best personal choice based on the number of hospital beds being used by COVID-19 patients, hospital admissions and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in the area. Based on these guidelines, residents should stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if they have symptoms. Residents have lots of options available for testing and vaccination. Keeping COVID-19 rapid tests on hand can ensure speedy results and treatment options if someone begins to show symptoms. Testing options include:

Many options for vaccinations are available, including mobile bus clinics (appointments recommended), as well as vaccinations through a primary care provider or pharmacy. Additional resources about COVID-19 vaccines and boosters can be found on the Denver Dept. of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) COVID-19 webpage.

Back to School List: Tools to Make Sure COVID-19 Gets an 'F'

Along with glue, colored pencils, spirals and backpacks, DDPHE recommends parents get all the tools necessary to protect kids from COVID-19 before they head back to the classroom, including making sure they are up to date on their vaccination series. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment's (CDPHE) vaccine calculator is a good tool for keep track of vaccinations and boosters. If the kids are headed to daycare or preschool, all individuals, six-months of age and older are now eligible for a vaccination. Vaccinations are readily available, safe and FREE.

Another tool available to parents comes from CDPHE. The Care-to-Clinic Locator helps parents and guardians to quickly identify the under-5 vaccine providers closest to their child's daycare, Head Start, YMCA, or other childcare centers.

Adults, teens and kids alike should all STAY HOME and GET TESTED if they feel sick. If a test comes back positive, the CDC recommends isolation followed by masking up in public. The CDC provides an Isolation and Quarantine calculator for guidance. Those who test positive should call their healthcare provider or local pharmacy to learn what treatment options are available.

Much like preparing for cold or allergy season, being prepared for COVID-19 can help minimize disruption caused by the virus and ensure treatment is received quickly. Additional resources about COVID-19 vaccination, prevention and protection can be found on the DDPHE COVID-19 website.
