Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released the following statement as the United States takes the position of Chair of the United Nations Security Council for the month of May.

"I urge UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to take this opportunity to redouble U.S. efforts to condemn Russia's unprovoked war of aggression. The United States must show leadership in calling out Russia's blatant war crimes in Ukraine as well as highlighting the grave global food security crisis exacerbated by Putin's brutality. I also urge prioritization of longstanding U.S. concerns like the CCP's genocide against Uyghurs, the Burmese military's brutal coup, humanitarian access in Northern Ethiopia, cross-border humanitarian aid access in Syria, and holding Iran and its proxies accountable for their malign activities."
