With on-the-water events taking place from Friday 24 May through to Tuesday 28 May, hundreds of visitors attended events across the region for their first experience of sailing and windsurfing.
These included events at Shotley Point Yacht Club in Suffolk, where an open event at the Marina attracted thousands of visitors, as part of this the Club held try sailing taster sessions in yachts, and signed up a number of new members to their innovative 'Crew Pool' project. In Essex, Marconi Sailing Club held an extremely popular day, with volunteers from the club welcoming hundreds of guests for an afternoon of sailing, cruising, windsurfing and rowing on a perfect summer's afternoon, with 195 visitors on the water.
Ouse Amateur Sailing Club in Norfolk held a successful open day, despite adverse weather, taking prospective members out on the water, whilst Grafham Water Centre's Open Day coincided with their 50th Anniversary Celebrations, enjoying a fantastic day in which they saw lots of people on the water for the first time.
Other events over the weekend included Alexandra Yacht Club, Brightlingsea Sailing Club and ESSA Water Activities Centre in Essex, Bury Lake Young Mariners in Hertfordshire, and Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club in Suffolk.
