Over the past two years, Severfield has made a substantial investment at Lostock of more than £3m into its factory in Lancashire, with significant improvements being made to 'Bay 4'. Historically, Bay 4 has produced steel for the 2012 Olympics, Arsenal Emirates Football Stadium, The Shard and more recently Ordsall Chord rail bridge in Manchester, to mention only a few.
A key part of the development has been the purchase and installation of two 50-tonne overhead cranes. Previously, these were 40-tonne cranes, which meant we had limitations on the weight of steel we could lift within Bay 4. By increasing our lifting capacity and capability, we have improved efficiency, can provide larger pieces of fabricated steelwork to our clients - improving our client services - further strengthening our market position.
Here's a video about our investment at Lostock (also available on our Video Hub)
The investment at Lostock has provided a complete upgrade to the working environment within Bay 4. As well as improving the efficiencies through more flexibility in the space, we have also upgraded lighting, provided dedicated areas for tool storage and installed an integrated services management system. These improvements are all with a view to sustaining our excellent housekeeping and health and safety standards.
These investments complete our 'Modernisation Programme' at Lostock and following the installation of our new 'T&I ' and blasting machines, Bay 4 is now fully prepped to deliver its upcoming large and iconic projects.
