B-2 Officers Arrest Three Suspects, Recover 2 Firearms, and 22 Grams of Crack Cocaine

At about 12:15 AM, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Jaileen Joseph, 20, of Roslindale, Kevin Vandergrfit, 19, of Brighton, and a 17-year-old juvenile male, on firearm and drug trafficking charges.

Officers responded to the area of Mount Pleasant Avenue for a report of people playing loud music outside. Officers observed a large group congregating in the area of 39 Mount Pleasant Avenue. As officers approached the group, they observed a male individual immediately grab at his waistband and pinned his arm against his side.

Officers also observed a second male individual separate from the group and began to walk at a quick pace towards an alley. Officers observed the individual pin both of his hands towards his waistband as if he was adjusting an object. As officers stepped out of their cruiser, the suspect immediately began to sprint away and a foot pursuit ensued.

Officers observed the suspect crouch behind a vehicle and discard an item. The suspect then continued to run from officers and was apprehended in the area of 25 Greenville Street. Officers located a firearm from underneath the vehicle the suspect was crouching behind.

Officers still on scene with the group on Mount Pleasant Street observed a suspect discard an object underneath the rear driver's side of a motor vehicle. Officers approached the suspect, and observed what they believed to be a bag containing drugs. The suspect was then placed into handcuffs without incident.

With the assistance of responding officers, they were able to conduct a pat frisk on an individual they believed was concealing a weapon. Officers immediately felt the presence of a firearm, and the suspect began to resist. Officers were able to safely handcuff the suspect, and recovered a firearm with an extended magazine.

The recovered firearms were later determined to be a Smith & Wesson with one round in the chamber and fourteen rounds in the magazine, and a Glock 19 with one round in the chamber and fourteen rounds in the magazine which was capable of holding thirty rounds. The Glock 19 was later determined to be a stolen firearm.

The recovered drugs were later determined to be crack cocaine with an approximate weight of 22 grams.

Vandergrift was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

Joseph was placed under arrest and charged with trafficking of class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

The 17-year-old juvenile male was placed under arrest and charged with delinquent to wit; unlawful possession of a firearm, delinquent to wit; unlawful possession of ammunition, delinquent to wit; unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and delinquent to wit; receiving stolen property over $1,200. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
