City of Atlanta Gears Up for Winter Weather; Mayor Dickens, Transportation Commissioner to Tour Facilities and Equipment Preparations

Mayor Andre Dickens and ATLDOT Commissioner Josh Rowan will meet with staff, tour the City's facility and review equipment on Friday, January 14, at 7:00 a.m. in preparation for this weekend's anticipated winter weather event.

According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix of rain, ice and/or snow is possible between Saturday evening and Monday morning. Travel could be difficult to impossible, with hazardous conditions impacting the morning commute.

ATLDOT has a combination of in-house and contracted winter weather resources available for deployment, including:

  • 40 pieces of snow equipment, with more available through contractor support.
  • 300 employees, 150 per shift.
  • 22,500 gallons of brine
  • 5,550 tons of salt
  • 200 tons of gravel
  • 150 tons of sand
