Daniel Kaufman Quoted in Global Data Review Regarding Departure of an FTC Commissioner

On August 9, 2022, Partner Daniel Kaufman was quoted in a Global Data Review article titled "Phillips set to leave FTC." When Republican FTC Commissioner Noah Phillips leaves this fall, Democrats on the FTC will have a 3-1 majority, the article reports. Kaufman says Phillips has been a "valuable voice" with important insights, but his departure won't significantly affect FTC decisions. After all, it doesn't much matter if a partisan issue is decided by 3-2 or 3-1; the outcome is the same, Kaufman says. He adds that the FTC tends to vote unanimously on consumer matters. "What we have seen from the consumer protection side is it's not hotly contested on partisan issues," he says.
