GCI supports Community Conversations to make sure Alaskans feel connected

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - GCI, Alaska's largest telecommunications provider, has committed $14,500 to the Alaska Black Caucus ' (ABC) Community Conversations program to support constructive, ongoing dialogues around diversity, equity, and inclusion in Alaska.

The ABC supports efforts to help advance the educational, cultural, political, and economic well-being of Alaska's African American community and acts as a liaison for various minority interest groups within the state. The ABC will use the funds to expand the reach and impact of its Community Conversations program, a series that features conversations with a wide range of Alaska leaders including Alaska Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink, ABC Founder Dr. Louie Overstreet, Rasmuson Foundation CEO Diane Kaplan, U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan, State Senator Elvi Gray-Jackson, Indigenous Consultant Yaari Walker, and others.

"Now, more than ever, it is important for Alaskans to have a forum to come together and discuss issues in a productive way," said GCI Chief Communications Officer Heather Handyside. "We have far more things in common than issues that divide us, and programs like the ABC's Community Conversations can help strengthen our community by creating opportunities for Alaskans to find common ground on important issues."

"We expect more than a thousand additional attendees to the Alaska Black Caucus' live discussions of community issues, including physical and mental health, business and economic empowerment, race and racism, justice, culture, education, and other important topics in the coming year."
