Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission Celebrating Historic Preservation Month with May Events

The Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is announcing a series of events throughout the month, celebrating the city's rich history and cultural heritage. May is officially recognized as Historic Preservation Month, and the commission invites residents and visitors alike to join in the festivities.

"These events serve as an avenue to promote historic places, events, and activities, instilling a sense of community pride," Bismarck HPC Chair Amy Sakariassen said. "Moreover, they highlight the economic and social benefits of historic preservation, underscoring its importance in sustaining the vitality of our city."

Planned activities include a downtown display of historic artifacts recently unearthed during downtown improvement projects. This exhibition will offer a glimpse into the lives of our predecessors, showcasing relics and mementos that illuminate the stories of generations past. Other planned events are the Bismarck Historical Society's history trivia event, a walking tour of Bismarck's historic downtown and a presentation on the historic influence of roads in our community. All events are free and open to the public. Any notice of event changes will be posted on the City of Bismarck's Calendar.

The Bismarck HPC encourages all residents and visitors to mark their calendars and participate in these memorable events. Whether you're a history buff, a curious explorer, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of our city's past, there's something for everyone to enjoy this May.
