PEARL, Miss. (MEMA) - The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency staff is validating damage numbers to determine if the state is eligible to apply for federal assistance following the April 9-10 tornadoes, severe weather, and flooding. During the validation process, the state is coordinating with non-governmental organizations and private non-profits to meet the needs of affected citizens. At the time of this release, two deaths and seven injuries have been reported to MEMA.
Damage numbers will fluctuate during the validation process. These counties report some damage to homes ranging from affected to destroyed:
Statewide, 47 public roads, two public bridges, seven public buildings, and three non-profit utility companies were also damaged.
The National Weather Service has confirmed four tornadoes touched down in Mississippi between April 9-10.
