Wimpee 'Mayor of the Year' finalist

Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee is a finalist for the 2022 Mayor's Council of Oklahoma-Mayor of the Year Award.

This year's Mayor of the Year will be announced at the Oklahoma Municipal League Conference Awards Banquet held on Sept. 15 in Tulsa.

First established in 1992, the Mayor of the Year Award recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their community and profession through personal growth and involvement.

"We are excited to announce Mayor Wimpee's nomination for the Mayor of the Year Award," said Mayor's Council of Oklahoma President Craig Parham. "Mayor Wimpee is a dedicated public servant who cares for her constituents."

Parham says he looks forward to honoring outstanding Oklahoma leaders yearly at the OML Conference.

There are two categories for consideration for Mayor of the Year.

1. Mayors in communities with populations of more than 5,000 residents.
2. Mayors in communities with fewer than 5,000 residents.

"Oklahoma is fortunate to have so many Mayors that serve their cities with distinction," Oklahoma Municipal League Executive Director Mike Fina said. "Mayor Wimpee does so much for her community and is deserving of this nomination."

Criteria for consideration are as follows:

• Must be in elected municipal office at the time of the presentation.
• Must have served in elected municipal office a minimum of three years.
• Membership in the Mayor's Council of Oklahoma (MCO).
• Municipality must be a member of the Oklahoma Municipal League.
• Previous Mayor of the Year winners are ineligible for re-nomination.

Wimpee and the other nominees will be recognized at the MCO Mayors' Breakfast at the OML Statewide Conference on Sept. 14 in Tulsa.
