NOTICE - Construction Update for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey

NOTICE: Construction Update

Beginning on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Lyons Avenue will be closed to through traffic and parking from Osborne Terrace to Maple Avenue.

Lyons Avenue from Osborne Terrace to Maple Avenue will be closed from:

June 27-July 8 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. to accommodate construction on the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Newark Strong project.

Lyons Avenue will be open on weekends and on July 4th.

In addition, NJ Transit buses will continue to use the eastbound lane and emergency vehicles will continue to access this section of Lyons Avenue without interruption.

Traffic Detours are as follows:

Heading west on Lyons Ave. (from Newark Beth Israel towards I-78), vehicles will be detoured down Osborne Terrace to Lehigh Ave. then Schuyler Ave.

Heading east on Lyons Ave. (from I-78 towards Newark Beth Israel) vehicles will be detoured down Maple Ave. to Weequahic Ave. to Parkview Terrace.

Detour and closure signs will be posted.

This is the largest expansion of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center since 1967. The $150 million expansion project will include a new 17,000-square-foot, glass-enclosed main lobby, expanded adult and pediatric emergency departments, new hybrid operating rooms, and a new geriatric unit.
