Evening and walk-in vaccinations available from KCMO clinics

NEWS RELEASE

Now that more vaccine is available, the Kansas City Health Department is extending its COVID vaccination clinic into evening hours.

Beginning April 20, and continuing every Tuesday and Thursday until further notice, residents can come to the health department, 2400 Troost Ave., from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. to get a COVID vaccination. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments will help avoid longer wait-times.

The Health Department's commitment to prioritize vaccinations for those residents most vulnerable to hospitalization and death has resulted in widespread protection for our older residents. More than 70 percent of Kansas City residents over the age of 65 have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

We now need to encourage younger adults to be vaccinated. To date, only 30 percent of residents younger than 65 have had at least one dose. Everyone age 16 and older is eligible, so please encourage everyone in your family to visit the clinic that is most convenient

'We are expanding our clinic times to make it as easy as possible for our residents who have jobs or other commitments and can't stop what they're doing during the day to get a vaccination. We want to accommodate more people and more schedules. Our nursing staff is waiting and ready for you, so secure your appointment online, call 311, or walk-in so we will quickly double the number of residents 16-64 years old who are vaccinated against COVID-19,' said Tiffany Wilkinson, manager of the Division of Communicable Disease Prevention and Public Health Preparedness.

'There's an urgency to getting vaccinated. The sooner we have a large proportion of the population vaccinated, the less time and chance the virus has to adapt and potentially become more deadly. Every one of us should do what we can to prevent another year of COVID cases, COVID deaths, COVID losses and shutdowns. If enough of us are vaccinated, we will get back on track,' said Dr. Rex Archer, Kansas City Director of Health.

The Health Department has three other COVID vaccine clinics operating during the day. Choose the one closest or most convenient to you. Locations and hours:

  • Smith-Hale Middle School (old Hickman Mills H.S.) 9010A Old Santa Fe Road KCMO 64138
  • Former Gen-X store 3100 Prospect Ave. KCMO 64128
  • Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center 3700 Blue Parkway KCMO 64130

Walk-ins are welcome at all clinics. To guarantee a vaccine or shorten your wait time, appointments are recommended. For convenience, residents can schedule their own appointments at kcmo.gov/coronavirus. If you don't have access to the digital appointment platform, call 311 and staff will pre-register you over the phone or visit the clinic and staff will complete registration at that time.
