SAN ANTONIO (September 23, 2021) - Beginning September 24, Metro Health will offer a $100 H-E-B gift card to increase the number of COVID-19 vaccinations among San Antonio and Bexar County residents to become fully vaccinated.
"We hope that individuals who are still not vaccinated will take advantage of this incentive because it will take all of us getting vaccinated to end this pandemic," Metro Health Director Claude A. Jacob said. "Our COVID vaccines can help prevent someone from getting and spreading the virus to others, and they can prevent serious illness or hospitalization."
Who is eligible?

  • The gift cards will be given to individuals who receive either the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at any Metro Health vaccine site while supplies last.
  • Individuals who are already fully vaccinated before Friday, September 24 are NOT eligible for the incentive.
  • Individuals who are getting a third vaccine dose because of moderate to severe immunosuppression also are NOT eligible for the incentive.
  • While there are no age limits for the incentive, youth, ages 12 to 17, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a gift card.

Although no ID is required, individuals are asked to bring their COVID-19 immunization card. They will also be required to fill out a form including name, address, date they received their vaccine and the type of COVID-19 vaccine administered. The gift cards cannot be used to purchased alcohol or tobacco products.
Metro Health selected H-E-B for its vaccine gift card incentive program because of its familiarity and accessibility among residents, including underserved and high-risk individuals. During its regularly scheduled A session on September 9, City Council approved the purchase of 10,000 gift cards from H-E-B for $1 million to use federal monies from the Immunizations COVID-19 Round 4 Grant Fund.
