Alamitos Neighborhood Library Reopens Today

Long Beach, CA - The Alamitos Neighborhood Library, located at 1836 E. 3rd St., reopens to the public today at noon after undergoing an extensive heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) replacement project, funded by Measure A. The Alamitos branch first closed to the public with the other 11 Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) locations at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and remained closed until the replacement project was completed.

Constructed in 1929, Alamitos Neighborhood Library is LBPL's oldest building. To ensure the HVAC replacement could be completed in a way that would preserve the historic integrity of the building, the location remained closed to the public throughout the duration of the project.

Beginning Dec. 7, Alamitos Neighborhood Library will resume its normal operating hours as follows:

  • Tuesday, 12-7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 12-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, 12-7 p.m.
  • Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Alamitos Neighborhood Library patrons are encouraged to check the Library website at lbpl.org for the latest updates on the resumption of public programs such as story time at this location. More information about the history of the Alamitos Neighborhood Library is available on the LBPL website.
