AFT Celebrates Members Across the Country During Teacher Appreciation Week

WASHINGTON-American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten celebrates teachers throughout the country during Teacher Appreciation Week:

"America's teachers are the heart and soul of the nation. Every day, they continue to wake up and educate our students amid unprecedented uncertainty and risk, persevering despite shortages, anxiety, political interference and exhaustion. This week-and every week-we recognize their professionalism, their dedication, and their incredible humility and grace as they support our communities and help the next generation access opportunities to build a better life.

"This Teacher Appreciation Week, we have partnered with 214 parent groups, civil rights groups, student groups and fellow unions representing millions of people in placing ads across the country to say "thank you" and honor America's teachers, the stewards of our next generation who enter their classrooms every day and make an impact on the lives of kids. Teachers, together with parents and caregivers, have helped carry our kids through a tumultuous few years, working to safely reopen our classrooms so that kids and families could bounce back academically, socially and emotionally. From reading, writing and arithmetic, to building lasting relationships, teachers instill in our students a lifelong love of learning and equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to become critical thinkers and engaged citizens.

"Despite the ongoing political interference, attacks on public education, disrespect for their professionalism, and a seemingly endless struggle for resources, teachers rise to the occasion over and over to help prepare every child for whatever comes next-and they do it with incredible humanity and resilience."
