The Clemson College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) sent a group to the annual American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) conference in Washington, DC last week. The team had many meetings in their schedules including several with members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

"The enthusiasm we have experienced during our visits has been overwhelming," said Founding Dean Steven Marks. "We heard lots of 'Go Tigers' as we walked through government buildings last Wednesday. Clemson University is a special place to be, and I couldn't be prouder to represent the University and our College."

The team was led by their Capitol Hill representative who was responsive and friendly throughout the entire visit.

"We were warmly welcomed by both the Senate and the House on the Hill last week," said Dianne Dunning, Associate VP, Strategic Planning and Initiatives. "Everyone was supportive of Clemson's new initiative to build a College of Veterinary Medicine. Many expressed that this was long overdue! It was an amazing experience, and Dean Marks did an incredible job in his role as leader of this new initiative."

A major highlight of the conference was the College of Veterinary Medicine being named provisional members of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges! Go Tigers!

From the AAVMC website: "The AAVMC represents the global academic veterinary medical community. AAVMC members promote and protect the health and wellbeing of people, animals and the environment by advancing the veterinary medical profession and preparing new generations of veterinarians to meet the evolving needs of a changing world."
