The Secretary-General of the Commission for the Control of Financial Activities (CCAF), Magali Vercesi, took part in the Annual Meeting of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) from 17 to 19 October.

IOSCO was established in 1983 and brings together the regulators of the world's major stock exchanges. It aims to set international standards to strengthen the effectiveness and transparency of financial markets, protect investors and facilitate cooperation between regulators to combat financial crime. The organisation's members regulate more than 95% of global securities markets in more than 130 jurisdictions. IOSCO develops, implements and promotes adherence to internationally recognised standards for securities regulation. It works closely with the G20 and the Financial Stability Board (FSB) on the global regulatory reform agenda.

At the IOSCO Annual Meeting, held in Marrakech, the CCAF signed a multilateral cooperation agreement, enabling it to become an ordinary member of IOSCO. The agreement, introduced in 2002, has allowed regulators to cooperate quickly and effectively to combat cross-border market abuse including financial fraud and insider trading. The signing of this agreement is an important step for the Principality of Monaco in terms of recognition of its status as a cooperative country that applies the leading international financial standards.
