Cortez Masto Announces Over $308,000 in Grant Funding for Reno Police to Stop Dangerous Drivers

September 24, 2021

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced that the Reno Police Department would receive $308,978 from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to continue its program to stop dangerous drivers of both regular and commercial vehicles.

"Reno police have been working hard to crack down on unsafe drivers and lower the risk of dangerous accidents to keep our roads safe," said Senator Cortez Masto. "I'll continue to advocate for our officers in the Senate and help push for funding like this to support Nevada's law enforcement."

"This grant funding allows the Reno Police Department to continue critical enforcement measures to provide safer roads for our entire community," said Reno Police Chief Jason Soto.

As the former top law enforcement official in Nevada, Senator Cortez Masto has led efforts to support our police in the Senate. The American Rescue Plan she championed set aside $4 billion so that Nevada's state and local governments could maintain essential services like police and first responders. She led bipartisan efforts to push for further support through the Byrne JAG program for crime prevention, law enforcement, prosecution, corrections, and mental and behavioral health. She has also championed safety on Nevada's roads, passing bipartisan legislation out of the Senate to promote safety programs for students walking to school in response to increased accidents at schools in Washoe County.
