AMERICAN AIRLINES TO COMMENCE DIRECT FLIGHTS IN DOMINICA IN DECEMBER

American Airlines have announced that direct flights from Miami to Dominica will begin on December 8th 2021.

This announcement came after a proving flight landed in Dominica On Tuesday June 22 2021.

The flight performed a proving run to and from the Douglas-Charles Airport. It landed at 4:15 p.m. on Runway 09 and departed at 5:46 p.m. directly to Miami International Airport, where it landed approximately 3 hours later at 8:57 PM.

This was the last stage of the technical process to confirm that the service could operate safely and effectively on the route.

The aircraft will be an EMBRAER 170 series Jet with the ability of offering first class, premium, and main cabin service.

Minister for Tourism, International transport and Maritime Initiatives, Hon. Denise Charles stated that these flights will operate twice a week, to and from Dominica.

'It is with great Joy that I inform you that we have received final confirmation from American airlines of their intention to commence direct service to Dominica from their Miami Hub on December 8 2021. The service will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, departing Miami International Airport at 11:00 am and arriving at the Douglas Charles Airport at 3:21 p.m. The return flight will leave Dominica at 4:24 p.m. and arrive in Miami at 6:55 p.m.,' Hon. Charles stated.

Minister Charles noted that this announcement is evidence of the work and investments that the Ministry of Tourism continues to do to improve access into Dominica.

'Today the company has publicly announced their intentions to commence operations this December. This significant announcement by American Airlines is one that many have worked tirelessly towards. It also affirms the significant investments that we have made and continue to make over the years to improve our tourism products and hotel plant,' the Minister explained.

Hon. Charles went on to say that these developments will play an important role in the further development of the tourism sector.

'We view this development as a critical part of our overall plan to significantly increase our visitor arrivals in parallel with the development of our new international airport. Direct access will not only play a critical role in expanding tourism but also in developing trade and facilitating business connections. Just this week we also saw commencement of direct service from Port of Spain Trinidad. These developments are very timely as we seek to rapidly climb out of the challenges posed to our tourism industry by the covid-19 pandemic,' Minister Charles added.
