Mayor Wimpee elected to state board

Broken Arrow Mayor Debra Wimpee is the new Vice President of the Oklahoma Municipal League's Mayors Council of Oklahoma Board of Directors.

Wimpee was elected to the position at the organization's Summer Conference held in Durant on June 21.

"I am honored that my fellow Mayors would choose me for this leadership role with the organization," Wimpee said.

Wimpee is one of two members added to the MCO Board of Directors at this year's conference. The City of Miami's Mayor Bless Parker will serve as the Director of District One.

"We are grateful that these two outstanding mayors agreed to serve in leadership roles of our organization," said Amber Mayor Craig Parham, President of the MCO Board. "Their experience leading their respective communities brings a depth of knowledge to our board, and we want to thank them for their service."

Recognized as a unified voice for cities and towns across the state, the Oklahoma Municipal League is a source of information, training, and resources for city leaders all around Oklahoma.

The Mayors Council of Oklahoma began in 1991 as a bipartisan organization to represent the concerns and views of the body of the state's mayors.

MCO provides a vehicle for the development and implementation of programs of multi-jurisdictional cooperation between cities and towns designed to lessen the burden on local government.

"The strength of our local communities is driven by local leadership, and I look forward to working with Mayors from across the state to grow our cities and towns across Oklahoma," Wimpee concluded.
