Main phase of the tactical exercise of the military personnel of the Western Military District and the Republic of Belarus finishes in the Nizhny Novgorod region

As part of a joint two-way company tactical exercise, servicemen of the guards tank army of the Western Military District and servicemen of the Republic of Belarus practiced the maneuverable defence of tank and motorized rifle units to repel the offensive of the mock enemy at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

During the active phase of the exercise, tank and motorized rifle companies of Russia and Belarus fought a maneuvering battle with a change of firing positions. The servicemen faced the task of exhausting the enemy and luring them to prepared defensive lines, where the main forces awaited for them. Also, as part of the exercise, the servicemen practiced the evacuation of a wrecked tank from the battlefield, field repairs and the return of military equipment to service. During the exercise, servicemen fired ammunition from T-72B3 tanks and IFV-2 infantry fighting vehicles at distances from 800 to 2,000 meters. Land units were covered by Mi-24 helicopter pairs from the air.

Having lured the enemy into the designated area, the BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems opened fire, thereby turning the forces of the mock enemy to an unorganized flight.

In total, the exercise involved more than 500 military personnel and about 150 units of weapons and military and special equipment. The joint tactical exercise was one of the stages of preparation for Zapad-2021 strategic command post exercise.
