Saft’s new Seanergy 2.0 Li-ion battery will drive decarbonization for the marine industry

Paris, June 21^st 2022 - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has launched Seanergy 2.0, a new lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery system for full-electric and hybrid vessels. The marine battery is an environmentally responsible and competitively-priced solution to help ship operators reduce fuel consumption, CO₂ and NO_x emissions and air pollution, without sacrificing performance.

The system can be scaled to suit propulsion and other loads on board vessels including ferries, workboats and tugs, offshore support vessels, cruise liners and yachts.

Annie Sennet, Executive Vice President of Saft's Space & Defense division, said: "We regard our battery systems as making a vital contribution to the low-carbon economy. For the marine industry, Seanergy 2.0 provides high performance at a lower cost, enabling shipyards and electrical integrators to deliver battery systems for electric and hybrid propulsion more competitively in smaller spaces."

Seanergy 2.0 has high energy density of 130 watt-hours per liter (Wh/l), making it a compact solution for even the most restricted onboard spaces. Ship integrators can use individual modules to build large-scale battery systems up to 1,060 Volts (V), complete with power, safety, management and communication capabilities.

The battery system is designed to provide reliability and long life in the most challenging environmental conditions. In addition, it is maintenance-free and has the capability to support remote condition monitoring by uploading operational data to a secure server.

Seanergy 2.0 is manufactured in Saft's facility in Poitiers, France, and is designed to meet the highest marine industry standard certifications.
