Will provide leadership for key institutional initiatives

Dr. Julian Earls has been selected by Cleveland State University President Harlan Sands to serve as special advisor. In that role, Earls will provide leadership and direction for institutional initiatives and special projects, advise on institutional policies and departmental operations and serve as a key liaison with diverse internal and external constituencies. He previously served as CSU's interim chief diversity officer and as an executive-in-residence in the Monte Ahuja College of Business.

'We are very pleased that Dr. Earls has agreed to continue to be a part of the CSU leadership team and I am looking forward to working with him to enhance CSU's ongoing efforts to promote educational access, student success and community engagement,' Sands says.

'I am honored to be taking on this new role and see it as an extension of the efforts I have undertaken throughout my tenure at CSU. I will continue to strive to increase educational opportunity for all and enhance connectivity between the University and the city we call home,' Earls adds.

During his time on campus, Earls has been instrumental in Campus International School and MC2STEM High School, innovative public schools located on the CSU campus and run in partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. In addition, Earls helped lead efforts to create the Partnership for Urban Health, which seeks to increase the number of diverse medical professionals working in underserved urban neighborhoods. Prior to his arrival at CSU, he spent 40 years in a variety of leadership positions with NASA ending with his tenure as director of the John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field.
