Las Cruces Public Libraries is Recipient of 'Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home' Grant

Las Cruces Public Libraries will be creating programming with funding from the "Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home" grant.

The grant is from Library of America with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Emerson Collective.

Latino poetry engages with the complexities of history, language, land, and identity. The community is enriched by the stories of immigrants, exiles, refugees, and their descendants.

The grant will fund free public library programming beginning in September 2024. A celebration of Latino poetry is in the works, and Las Cruces Public Libraries will be seeking members of the community to share their poetry at readings.

In support of our communities' English as a Second Language groups, which utilize library services as well as the cities' multicultural populations, a multilingual poetry reading group is forming in the coming months. With time and development of this group, members will have the chance to engage with the community while practicing language development and literacy.
