Atkins Nuclear Secured breaks ground on new technology center in Richland...

RICHLAND, Wash., USA: Atkins Nuclear Secured Holding Corporation, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, celebrated the start of construction on the new, $20 million, state-of-the-art Atkins Technology Center (ATC) with a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday in Richland, Washington.

"We are about connecting people, data, and technology to deliver solutions to address some of our planet's most complex problems," said Joe St. Julian, President, Nuclear, SNC-Lavalin. "The ATC will be at the forefront with our other global locations, enabling the development and application of new and innovative ways of delivering end-to-end services for our customer's projects."

The ATC will be adjacent to the existing Atkins Engineering Laboratory and the Washington State University Tri-Cities Wine Science Center. Constructed in partnership with Fowler General Construction, Inc., the facility will feature 16,000 square feet of open, collaborative office space similar to the global SNC-Lavalin Lava Labs and another 16,000-square-foot high-bay testing area specifically purposed for developing innovative nuclear and environmental cleanup technologies, digital solutions, robotics and Engineering Net Zero advancement.

"This is a $20 million investment into our local community and represents a significant commitment not only to the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) cleanup goals, but also to Washington State University Tri-Cities (WSUTC) and to the local Tri-Cities," said Richland Mayor Michael Alvarez. "The ATC will allow students to be a part of engineering and technological innovation which will attract and keep future generations of leaders right here in the Tri-Cities."

"This is a big day for us and a very tangible demonstration of our commitment to this community and the important work being done at Hanford," said Tom Jouvanis, President, Atkins Nuclear Secured. "We look forward to continuing our strong partnerships at Hanford and with the DOE, WSUTC, the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Catholic University's Vitreous State Laboratory to provide cutting-edge solutions."

In addition to SNC-Lavalin and Atkins Nuclear Secured leadership, other guests in attendance included representatives from the DOE and Washington State University Tri-Cities.
