Carmeuse Huron shows its support for local students

The Carmeuse Huron Operation expressed its support for local educational initiatives with its sponsorship of the St. Peter School Spooktacular 5K and Judi Lively Memorial Turkey Dash.

Held on 30 October, the St. Peter School Spooktacular helps fund special and enrichments classes for school children at St. Peter School, which runs from preschool through Grade 8. Shout-outs go to Cori Dike, 37, the top female competitor who completed the course in 22:07, and to Michael Bogden, 35, the top male finisher who completed in 19:02.

Runners were also allowed to compete virtually, running, walking, and biking their 5Ks from a location of their choosing between October 15-30. Kennedy Schlessmann, 16, topped the virtual leader board with a time of 19:11.

Kennedy also headed the rankings for female competitors-and came third overall-in the Judi Lively Memorial Turkey Dash, which took place on November 25th, completing the 5K in 20:42. Brett Lowden, 21, was the lead male competitor, finishing in a time of 18:31.

Money raised by the annual turkey dash goes to support scholarships for Huron High School graduates who are entering college to major in business.

The St. Peter School Spooktacular 5K and Judi Lively Memorial Turkey Dash were the final races in the Huron 5K Series, which started back in July with the Huron River Fest 5K. Carmeuse has been a sponsor throughout the five-race series, providing snacks and water to race participants.

The Abbey Rose Foundation 5K Trail Run in August and BGSU Firelands Falcon Fund 5K Run in September completed the program for this year.
