Defence Minister’s official meeting with his Turkish counterpart

On Thursday, April 25, Minister of National Defence, Angel Tîlvăr, had an official meeting with the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Turkey, Yaşar Güler, at the MoND headquarters.

During the bilateral talks, current topics regarding security and defence cooperation were addressed, the dialogue focusing on topics such as the challenges in the Black Sea region, against the background of the developments of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the support for Ukraine as well as on bilateral cooperation and within NATO between Romania and Turkey.

The Romanian Minister of Defence welcomed the inception of rendering the MCM Black Sea Task Force operational and emphasized the urgent need for this regional initiative to start taking concrete actions to counter the danger represented by drifting sea mines, thus contributing to maintaining safety navigation routes in the Black Sea.

"Romania is ready to participate with capabilities and personnel in the MCM Black Sea Task Force and we will continue to work with our partners from Turkey and Bulgaria in order to render this initiative operational as quickly as possible", Angel Tîlvăr stated.

Also, the Minister of National Defence appreciated the very good level of cooperation between the Romanian and Turkish Armed Forces at the level of all Services, as well as the cooperation in the technical field between the two armed forces.

In the end, the two officials agreed that the political-military dialogue between the two states is a valuable tool for harmonizing the points of view on topics of common interest and agreed to its continuance it in all forms of cooperation.
