Water-way to have fun in Borehamwood!

Councillors, officers and members of the public joined the Mayor of Hertsmere at the official opening of the new Splash Zone in Borehamwood today (Friday 5 August).

Mayor, Cllr John Graham, cut the ribbon to open the new splash zone before young people from across the borough ran in to enjoy the new water park.

The splash zone includes 23 in-ground jets from arching features to crawl under to large columns of water to run or jump through. There is also a Hula Spray, which forms a circular water jail, and a number of Hydro Blast's including a fountain like spray in the centre which reaches 3m high - are you brave enough!

At the official opening, organised by InspireAll, there was a children's entertainer and DJ. Later in the day, visitors could book to watch 'Sing 2' or 'No Time To Die' at the 'Movies in the Park' event, which took place at 3pm and 6pm.

Mayor, Cllr John Graham, said: "I am delighted to open the new splash zone in Meadow Park for our young people to enjoy. I know this water park has been eagerly awaited and will bring enjoyment to thousands of young people for years to come. It's a fantastic addition to Meadow Park and makes what is already a great park even better.

"We know that many families are experiencing financial difficulties at the moment, so it's great we can provide a free and fun facility for everyone to enjoy. Bring a picnic and make a day of it!"

In addition to the new splash zone, Meadow Park has two exciting and inclusive children's play areas, tennis courts, multi-sports court, baseball court, interactive play, teen shelter, football pitches, outdoor gym as well as open grassland and a wildflower meadow.

Cllr Seamus Quilty, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: "Meadow Park is a key open space in the heart of Borehamwood and the exciting new splash zone creates a great place for families with children of all ages to get outside and have fun for free!

"The splash zone has two distinct areas to allow different ages to play safely and have maximum fun. I am so pleased it is open for the summer holidays, which will greatly help families keep little ones entertained.

"The splash zone will add to the many happy memories created in the park. This is a major investment for Hertsmere Borough Council and enhances Meadow Park even further. Its central location in the heart of the town will maximise the number of people who will use this wonderful facility."

In 2018, the council completed phase one of the parks improvements project. This included establishing an inclusive toddler play area and large landscaped activity area for older children, creating a fitness zone, installing electronic interactive play equipment, creating new footpaths across the park to improve access and new entrance barriers to prevent unauthorised vehicle access and landscaping.

"Meadow Park has something for everyone, from the children's splash zone through to sports facilities," adds Cllr Quilty.

"By improving the council's open spaces we show our commitment to supporting our residents to lead healthier lives. The last few years have shown more than ever the positive impact on health and wellbeing of our parks and open spaces. We are delighted to continue investing in them."

Our newly resurfaced tennis courts, basketball court and Multi Use Games Area are already welcoming players. To book these courts please visit www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/MeadowParkBorehamwood

The splash zone will be open every day between 10am to 6pm until September.
