New coin to mark 220th anniversary of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On 24 January 2022, the Bank of Russia issues a commemorative silver 3-ruble coin The 220th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Service Day (Catalogue No. 5111-0456).

The silver 3-ruble coin (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) has a round shape and is 39.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and the reverse of the coin have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coin bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: 'РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ' (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination '3 РУБЛЯ' (3 RUBLES), the year of issue '2022 г.' (2022), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev's Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.


The reverse of the coin features a relief image of the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation located on Smolenskaya-Sennaya Square in Moscow, as well as an image (laser treated for matte finishing) of the eastern wing of the General Staff Building on Palace Square in Saint Petersburg which served as the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire before 1917; a relief image of the emblem of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in the upper part of the coin; and an inscription 'МИНИСТЕРСТВО ИНОСТРАННЫХ ДЕЛ РОССИЙСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ' (MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION) along the upper circumference.


The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

The new coin is legal tender of the Russian Federation and is mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at its face value.
