President Ashraf Ghani held separate meetings with soldiers, NCOs and officers of 205 Atal Army Corps and listened to their problems, wants and recommendations in Kandahar today.
The representatives of soldiers, NCOs and officers shared their wants and recommendations in different areas including increments, lack of equipment, timely medication supply, aero medical evacuation, providing higher education opportunities, capacity building courses, and promotions.
The president met with a larger group of Atal 205 Army Corps personnel and recognized their bravery and valor in protecting the country.
He added that Atal Corps is a legacy of prominent personalities of the country namely Ahmad Shah Baba, Shah Mahmood Hotaki and our honorable generals, so you have an obligation to preserve their gallantries.
'The flag you are waving is the legacy of Ahamd Shah Babh,' the president told the Atal Corps personnel.
President Ghani ordered authorities from the ministries of Interior and Defense to address the needs of ANP and ANA immediately, make sure promotions are timely and merit based, underlining the time that forces spend in the battlefield should be taken into account as a plus point at the time of their promotion.
The president ordered the relevant authorities to prepare a list of the soldiers who served for three consecutive years.
He asked the ministries of Defense and Interior to expedite the logistics process to ensure timely supply.
'Thank to your sacrifices, I confidently tell Afghanistan's neighbors that I am representing a free, sovereign and dignified nation,' said President Ghani.
He added, 'Thank to your braveries, I tell the neighbors if they embrace us, we will embrace you otherwise Afghan Army and our armed forces are ready to defend Afghanistan to the last drop of their blood. Now it is crystal clear to the world that within six month, you could shift from a defensive into offensive position.'
Talking about the Afghan peace process, the president said the Afghan government pursues peace process in line with the mandate and instructions given at Consultatie Loya Jirga on Peace.
The president stressed that peace is our goal, but we never compromise on our defense and security forces.
The president said after reaching a peace agreement, the number of forces will not alter, because your presence is necessary and essential until security is fully ensured across the country.
He asked the forces to stay impartial during the presidential elections and make every effort to ensure the security of this national process.
