Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard is guest of honor on Bolivian Independence Day

  • Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard is guest of honor on the 197th anniversary of Bolivia's independence

At the invitation of Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora, Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard participated as guest of honor in the celebration of the 197th anniversary of the independence of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, held at the Plaza 25 de Mayo in Sucre, the country's capital.

Foreign Secretary Ebrard participated in the offering ceremonies for Pachamama, which have ancestral origins and are conducted in August by the native Andean cultures to reaffirm and reestablish the bond of reciprocity between humanity and Mother Earth.

On behalf of the people and Government of Mexico, Secretary Ebrard laid a floral offering in honor of the memory of Marshal Sucre and the country's liberators and participated in the solemn session at the Casa de la Libertad (House of Liberty).

Inviting Mexico's foreign secretary as guest of honor on Bolivia's Independence Day is a courtesy paid to Mexico for its solidarity and forcefulness in defending the constitutional order in Bolivia and for strengthening the bilateral relationship with an ambitious agenda of cooperation, trade and investment.

At the conclusion of these activities, held on the last day of his official visit to Bolivia, Secretary Ebrard will travel to Bogotá, Colombia, to attend the presidential inauguration.
