Europe Day is celebrated on 9 May. This year, the main event will be held at Helsinki Central Library Oodi and the programme can be viewed online. The programme includes a wide range of topical discussions on the future of Finland and Europe. As part of the programme, Europe Information of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise an open event entitled "European security in transition - the direction of the European Union".

Europe Information's event will be held in the Maijansali Hall on the 1st floor of Oodi starting at 10.00 o'clock. The speakers will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and EU Youth Delegate Lotta Tuominen. Journalist Jussi-Pekka Rantanen will moderate the discussion. A live webcast of the discussion will be available at eurooppapaiva.fiLink to an external website. The discussion will be in Finnish.

The security situation in Europe will be one of the themes of discussion at the event. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has unsettled the European security environment. Crises have both troubled and united the European Union. How do the EU and Finland as a Member State respond to the crisis caused by war? Have Europe and the EU changed permanently?

"The EU was a peace project created after the Second World War. Europe Day is a day of peace and unity in Europe, and its importance is today more important than ever. The EU will continue to be determined in its support of Ukraine," says Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto.

In Finland, the Europe Day event is organised by European Finland, Europe Information of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, European Commission Representation in Finland, Office of the European Parliament in Finland, European Youth Association, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Oodi, European Investment Bank and Central Baltic Programme.
