Titans Record Another Impressive Victory

UW-Oshkosh used a strong performance in the fourth and final rotation to pull away and defeat both UW-Whitewater and UW-Stout in a women's gymnastics meet held Friday (Jan. 17) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans won the triangular with a score of 186.200 while UW-Whitewater finished second with a figure of 184.625 and UW-Stout third with a mark of 183.250.

UW-Oshkosh entered its fourth event, the floor exercise, with a lead of just two-tenths of a point over UW-Whitewater and an advantage of nearly three points over UW-Stout. The Titans secured their second straight impressive victory by totaling 46.775 points in the floor exercise while UW-Whitewater compiled 45.40 on the uneven bars and UW-Stout 45.90 on the vault.

Friday's meet involved the top three teams from last year's WIAC Championship as UW-Stout finished first, UW-Oshkosh second and UW-Whitewater third. UW-Stout went on to place second at last year's NCGA Championship while UW-Whitewater finished third and UW-Oshkosh fourth.

Last Friday (Jan. 10) in Kolf Sports Center, 14-time WIAC champion UW-Oshkosh opened its 2020 season with a narrow 181.900-181.350 win over 24-time league champion UW-La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh received event victories in Friday's meet against UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater from Emily Gilot and Baylee Tkaczuk.

Gilot posted a winning score of 9.475 on the vault while finishing third on the uneven bars at 9.35 and 13th in the floor exercise at 9.25. Tkaczuk recorded a victorious score of 9.60 on the uneven bars while placing eighth on the balance beam at 9.425.

UW-Oshkosh had all six of its contestants on the uneven bars place among the top 10 finishers. In addition to the placements by Tkaczuk and Gilot, the Titans had Jessica Bernardo finish seventh with a score of 9.15, Trinity Sawyer eighth at 9.125, Kaira Hammond ninth at 9.10 and Rahdea Jarvis 10th at 8.85.

Besides Gilot, UW-Oshkosh had four other top 10 finishers on the vault, including Jarvis and Sawyer who compiled fourth-place scores of 9.375. The Titans also had Haley Volstad finish eighth with a score of 9.35 and Amira Ali 10th with a mark of 9.175.

Three Titans placed in the top 10 in the floor exercise as Kennedy Springer finished second with a score of 9.525 while Sawyer placed sixth at 9.425 and Olivia Keller eighth at 9.375.

UW-Oshkosh's top-10 finishes concluded with Paige Mayhew's third-place score of 9.575 and Hammond's fifth-place figure of 9.475 on the balance beam.

In addition to its team score of 46.775 in the floor exercise, UW-Oshkosh compiled values of 46.75 on the vault, 46.35 on the balance beam and 46.325 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it competes at a quadrangular hosted by NCAA Division II Texas Woman's University on Jan. 26. Division I Kent State University (Ohio) and Division II Lindenwood University (Mo.) will also attend the meet.
