Ecolab Reports 1st-Quarter Sales Increase of 5%

Ecolab Inc. has reported first-quarter net sales of US$3.75 billion, an increase of 5% from $3.57 billion a year ago.

Ecolab's first-quarter operating income increased to $517 million, up 47% from $351 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Sales in the company's global institutional and specialty division climbed 12% to $1.27 billion, while its global industrial division increased sales 2% to $1.84 billion. Ecolab's global health care and life sciences division saw sales dip 1% to $382 million.

"As expected, we kicked off the year with very strong performance as our team continued to execute very well," said Christophe Beck, Ecolab chairman and CEO. "Good organic sales growth was driven by new business wins and value-based pricing, demonstrating the increased value we create for our customers."
