Survey extended to take in input on issues of safety, zoning, natural resources, and more

The City of Dearborn invites the community to make its voice heard and provide input to help shape the city's future as it prepares to make updates to its long-term development plan.

The City is preparing to make key updates to its Master Land Use Plan, a policy document used by elected and appointed community leaders to guide land-use decisions across the city including those impacting transportation, development, recreation, the economy, natural resources, and arts and culture.

The plan sets goals for where new buildings go, how streets are built, where housing and businesses are located, what elements of a community should be preserved, and other important features of the city's built environment.

As part of the research gathering phase of this project, the City urges people from across Dearborn and its many neighborhoods to make their voices heard in a survey on what topics they would like the City to prioritize among building design, location of businesses, and residential developments, street safety, and more.

The survey also includes open-ended questions about what survey takers love about the city, and what they would like to see improved.

Nearly 500 Dearborn residents have made their voices heard in the survey since it was launched roughly two months ago. The majority of respondents are over 45 years of age and White/Caucasian.

To ensure input is gained from all corners of Dearborn, the survey has now been extended to Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Those looking to provide their input in person and discuss common concerns or what they would like maintained, improved, and transformed in their neighborhoods can attend community meet-ups in their neighborhood, five of which are scheduled for April 29 and May 2:
  • Fordson High School - Media Center, April 29 from 3:30 - 5 p.m.
  • O.L. Smith Middle School - Media Center, April 29 from 5:30 - 7 p.m.
  • Salina Elementary School - Media Center, May 2 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
  • Centennial Library - M15 Conference Room (3rd Floor), May 2 from 1 - 3 p.m.
  • Arab American National Museum - The Annex Room, May 2 from 4 - 6 p.m.
Those unable to attend an event can utilize the virtual feedback option, open from May 6 - 13, at PlanDearborn.org.
