Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Elizabeth Truss, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom

NEW YORK CITY, September 22, 2021-This afternoon, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Elizabeth Truss, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom.

President Malpass congratulated Secretary Truss on her new roles as Foreign Secretary and the UK's Governor of the World Bank Group.

President Malpass highlighted the World Bank Group's work in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to accelerate vaccine access for developing countries.

President Malpass and Secretary Truss discussed shared development priorities, including trade, gender, and climate in the lead-up to COP26. President Malpass also highlighted the importance of country platforms.

President Malpass welcomed the UK's strong support for IDA and explained IDA's critical role in strengthening resilience and crisis preparedness in the world's poorest countries. A successful and ambitious IDA20 replenishment will play a key role in addressing ongoing security, trade, and development challenges.
