Urgent reminders for travellers to Sabah & Sarawak

SEPANG, 2 November 2021 - As AirAsia embarks on reinstating its domestic flights to Sabah and Sarawak following further relaxation of travel requirements into the two states, the airline wishes to remind guests of the following restrictions and requirements that are still applicable:

As this is only valid for 12 hours before arrival in Sarawak, it is advisable that guests fill it up before leaving for the airport on the departure date.

  • Non-citizens of Sarawak (other Malaysians and foreigners) are still required to apply via EnterSarawak except for federal officers serving in Sarawak, private sector employees, spouses and children of Sarawak citizens, and Malaysia My Second Home - Sarawak visa holders, who are required to present their documentary proof before boarding.

  • All travellers entering Sarawak from overseas are required to apply via EnterSarawak, undergo an rt-PCR test 3 days prior to entering Malaysia and to be quarantined upon arrival in Sarawak.

  • Travellers 12-18 years old must have received at least one dose of the two-dose Covid-19 vaccine, and children under the age of 12 to be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or guardians.

  • For non-Malaysians, those allowed conditional entry are spouses or dependents of Sabahans, permanent residents of Sabah, essential service workers and their dependents, visiting investors under invitation by the state government, temporary pass holders, Malaysia My Second Home - Sabah visa holders and higher learning institute students who meet the requirements.

  • Other non-Malaysians who are still not permitted to enter must file an application to the Chief Minister's Department to be considered for a special approval. Visit hednp.sabah.gov.my to get a list of sub-categories allowed to apply for entry into Sabah.

Self-Check-in early via airasia Super App

  • AirAsia has made checking-in via the airasia super App mandatory, which guests are encouraged to do well before leaving for the airport or as early as 14 days before the flight. Guests are also reminded to scan the correct second-dose vaccination QR code on MySejahtera and ensure that the name in their booking is the same as per MySejahtera for a smooth check-in process. Counter check in will only be available for senior citizens, guests with reduced mobility, guests travelling with infants (below 2 years old) and and young passengers travelling alone. A fee of up to RM100 per passenger may be applicable to other guests who choose to check-in over the counter.

Enrol for FACES facial recognition boarding system

  • AirAsia has rolled out its FACES facial recognition boarding system for enhanced security and safety, making the entire journey fully digital, contactless and seamless. All guests are encouraged to enrol onto FACES with just a few simple steps on the airasia Super App.

AirAsia assures the highest safety standards are in place as part of its robust Covid-19 mitigation plan including by accepting only fully-vaccinated guests onboard, making it mandatory to check-in via the airasia Super App that integrates with vaccination records on MySejahtera.

AirAsia has spent the period of downtime in travel over the past one-and-a-half years to further improve and revamp its flight procedures and processes. In the highest interest of safety and wellbeing of all its guests and employees, AirAsia will accept only fully-vaccinated guests on board its flights, and likewise ensure only fully-vaccinated employees will operate flights and be on-duty at airport terminals.

Despite mostly not flying for a good part of the past 18 months, all AirAsia's aircraft are properly maintained according to procedures set by the manufacturer. AirAsia has set up an in-house maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) unit called Asia Digital Engineering that provides services not only to AirAsia but also other airlines. Likewise, all its pilots and cabin crew are regularly sent for mandatory refresher courses and ongoing retraining so that they are always on top of their job.
