ARIN 53 Day 3 Recap

We've concluded the third and final day of the ARIN 53 Public Policy and Members Meeting! A huge thank you to all who participated in person and virtually and helped make this another productive and engaging event. In the meantime, here's an overview of what happened on Day Three - it's brief, like the agenda was!

The Final Countdown

After Hollis Kara, Director of Communications, provided a warm welcome, a thank you to our elected volunteers, and opening announcements - along with another shout out to our meeting sponsors, C&W Business, Google, and IPv4.Global by Hilco Streambank - we dove right into the final reports of ARIN 53.

Hollis stayed at the mic to present her Communications Department update. She introduced her team and what they're working on, including training, education and community engagement, outreach, internal collaboration, ARIN's Consultation and Suggestion Process, and more. Among other 2024 projects, Hollis highlighted the upcoming retirement of SWIP email templates (on 3 June) and the new training platform in development. She also reminded the community that a consultation on approaches for adjusting the ARIN Registration Services Plan Fee Schedule is currently open and encouraged you to submit your feedback!

Chief Financial Officer Brian Kirk then took the stage to update the community about the Financial Services Department (FSD). After introducing the FSD team, he provided a look at billing and accounts receivable, customer service activity, accounts payable and disbursements, and accounting and financial statements. He also noted changes that took place in 2023, including automation of financial statement preparation and an ongoing accounting system software upgrade.

Next up, Chief Human Resources Officer Erin Alligood introduced ARIN's HR and Administration team and its responsibilities. She shared 2023 highlights and 2024 projects including: 401(k) audits; diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; staff and volunteer training; and succession planning. Erin also noted that ARIN recently passed the 100-employee mark and continues to maintain a strong employee tenure averaging about nine years.

With the penultimate report of ARIN 53, Chief Customer Officer (CCO) John Sweeting shared the CCO Update. This included overviews of our Customer Experience and Strategy and Registration Services departments, their 2023 accomplishments, and 2024 areas of focus, along with IPv4 and IPv6 statistics.

ARIN Project Manager Amanda Gauldin then closed out the meeting's presentations with her update on the Fellowship and Grant programs as well as ARIN's ongoing outreach efforts, including a look at industry events attended by ARIN staff and the presentations they're sharing. The ARIN Community Grant Program has awarded nearly US$231,000 so far in support of 21 projects, and past project reports are available on the ARIN Blog. The next application period opens this Monday, 22 April, and we encourage you to apply if you have a project benefiting the Internet community in the ARIN region that you think would be a good fit. Following Amanda's presentation, multiple ARIN Fellows and members of the Advisory Council who serve as their Mentors shared their thanks and praise for the program and willingness to continue their involvement with ARIN.

To wrap things up, ARIN President and CEO John Curran and Board of Trustees Chair Bill Sandiford hosted an open mic session, during which comments praised the high level of participation at this meeting, addressed the importance of the ARIN Community Grant Program in funding impactful projects, and encouraged participation in its selection committee, along with exploring ARIN's grassroots outreach efforts like ARIN on the Road and webinars by request and thanks for ARIN's support of CaribNOG, especially for the opportunity to engage with the Board during yesterday's luncheon.

Then we heard closing announcements from Hollis, who thanked our sponsors one last time and encouraged in-person attendees to stick around for the RPKI Deployathon and Caribbean Roundtable following the meeting. And with that, ARIN 53 was in the books!
