25 credit union advocates joined the MD|DC Credit Union Association to educate them on the issues impacting members.
Credit unions met with Reps. Hoyer and Harris, along with aides to Senator Cardin, Reps. Ruppersberger, Brown, Trone and Cummings. They discussed the need for Congress to enact strong national data protection standards aligned with what is required of credit unions through the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Credit unions also advocated for the ability to recover costs associated with reissuing cards, and reimbursing consumers for fraudulent transactions when a breach occurs due to negligence.
Legislators and their aides expressed their appreciation for the financial assistance credit unions provided to members during the federal government shutdown.
