This is APA Communications Director Gregg Overman with the APA Information Hotline for Wednesday, Jan. 3.
APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS CONVENES FOR SPECIAL MEETING: The APA Board of Directors convened at 12 p.m. CST today for a special meeting to consider the settlement agreement addressing length of service credit, duty rigs and average minimum day rigs, and DOTC/RAS (filling of open time).
APA President CA Dan Carey opened the meeting by reminding those in attendance that one year ago APA made the bold statement that '2017 will be our year.' He then asserted that '2017 has been our year' and recapped the contract gains APA has achieved, pointing out that the settlement agreement now being considered would, if approved, boost the annual gains above $1 billion for the pilot group. He acknowledged the positive impact of pilot unity, as demonstrated by the no-float campaign.
CA Carey initiated a round of applause for the pilot group's key role in ensuring a safe operation during the past year, and he also thanked the large 'LOS Now' contingent at the meeting, characterizing their well-organized efforts as 'part of the democratic process.' A number of 'LOS Now' pilots carrying picket signs urging a 'yes' vote on the settlement agreement gathered outside APA headquarters before the meeting began, attracting local news media attention. CA Carey closed his remarks by stating, 'Let's have fun, let's have honest debate, and let's be mindful of respect.'
Negotiating Chairman CA Bob Duma and Director of Pilot Negotiations and Contract Administration Mark Myers briefed the board on the components of the settlement agreement. In addition, the board spent portions of the afternoon in executive session with various subject-matter experts.
After discussion and debate, the board approved a motion delaying a vote on the settlement agreement until Jan. 16 'for purposes of providing time for the association and company negotiators to fully 'benchmark' Attachment 3: 'Current Process of Filling of Open Time' and to narrow the scope of settlement terms covering Presidential Grievances.'
Also today, the board voted to approve a motion to renew the union's Fiduciary Liability Policy and Union Liability Policy with increased excess executive limit, as recommended by the APA Liability Insurance Ad Hoc Committee, which has been reviewing our coverage level.
The board recessed its meeting shortly after 6 p.m.
