HATCHING OPPORTUNITIES

NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART HATCHERY NOW OPERATING IN ELLISVILLE, MISSISSIPPI

Sanderson Farms' newest hatchery in Ellisville, Mississippi is off to a successful start in its first four months of operation. The $18.5 million, 55,000-square-foot facility sits on 19 acres of land overlooking Interstate 59.

'We are excited about the possibilities this new facility will offer our team,' said William Odom, division manager for the company's live production division in Laurel. 'It is amazing how far technology has come since the previous hatchery was built, and we look forward to putting that technology to work.'

Utilizing state-of-the art technology, the new 36-machine hatchery will help identify operational efficiencies for the Laurel Production division who previously operated one of the company's oldest hatcheries.

'Our previous hatchery in Laurel was over 60 years old, and we knew it was time for us to start looking to the future,' said Pic Billingsley, director of development and engineering at Sanderson Farms.

With the opening of the new facility earlier this year, employees were moved from the old hatchery in Laurel to the new hatchery in Ellisville. Since March, the hatchery has been fully operational and working to supply the Laurel Production division with newly hatched birds for their broiler farms.

'This hatchery gives us the added capacity we need to support future growth in Mississippi,' said Billingsley. 'Mississippi is where our company first planted its roots back in 1947, and it is exciting to be building new facilities here after over 74 years of operation.'
