In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), USGBC and Built Environment Plus are offering the Solar Decathlon Professionals (SD Pro) Training online from June through August.

Program purpose

The SD Pro Program builds on the success of the DOE Solar Decathlon collegiate competition to provide industry professionals with an opportunity to develop building science expertise and gain practical experience designing net zero energy projects.

This advanced-level course is intended for early to mid-level professionals, facility managers and higher education faculty members who are familiar with building science principles but want to learn more, apply zero energy design principles to their projects and/or teach zero energy design principles to others.

A key component of the training is applying building science concepts to a project. Each week, participants will consider design decisions for a project and present ideas at the end of the course.

What's included?

The SD Pro Training includes

  • The on-demand, online Solar Decathlon Building Science Education series.
  • Live digital weekly sessions with the instructor and other learners for discussion, further instruction and project-based activities. These sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. ET from June 18 to Aug. 27 (no class the week of July 4). Weekly topics include high-performance project planning and goal-setting, passive design, zero energy building, building envelopes, HVAC systems, lighting, plug loads, life cycle analysis, retrofits and renewable energy.
  • A net zero energy building design project activity.

Register for the training.
