APIC honors Saint Louis University Infection Preventionist, Terri Rebmann, with Distinguished Service Award

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) today announced that infection prevention and control (IPC) teacher, expert, and leader, Terri Rebmann, PhD, RN, CIC, FAPIC, Director of the Institute for Biosecurity at Saint Louis University, will be honored with the 2021 President's Distinguished Service Award.

The award, which honors the work of Patricia Lynch as one of APIC's pioneering members and its first national president, is given to an individual for service to APIC and contributions to the IPC profession.

Rebmann, who is also Professor in Saint Louis University's Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Special Assistant to the President, served on APIC's COVID-19 Task Force. A global leader on bioterrorism, disaster response, and infectious diseases, Rebmann helped to write an APIC white paper on lessons learned from the pandemic and presented numerous webinars to ensure that APIC members and frontline caregivers understood changing guidance on transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and PPE. In addition to this, Rebmann led the execution and analysis of APIC's two nationwide PPE surveys and focus groups with APIC members.

'Terri's contributions throughout her career, and most recently during COVID-19, have been vital to advancing APIC's infection prevention mission and advocacy agenda,' said 2021 APIC President Ann Marie Pettis, RN, BSN, CIC, FAPIC. 'We are grateful for her scholarship, dedication, and service. For more than 20 years, Terri has made the world a safer place and continues to inspire other infection preventionists to become leaders in the profession and heroes in their communities.'

Rebmann previously served APIC as an APIC Chapter president, member of APIC's national Ebola Task Force, and editorial board member for The American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC). She also chaired APIC's national Emergency Preparedness Committee and oversaw development of several pivotal position papers and guidance documents, including 'Infection Prevention and Control Guidance for Shelters During Disasters,' and 'Extending the Use and/or Reusing Respiratory Protection in Healthcare Settings During Disasters.' Rebmann has published more than 130 papers and articles and is a sought-after speaker.
