Heinrich To Keynote Electrification Webinar Hosted By Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - On Wednesday, January 26 at 1:30 p.m. MT/3:30 p.m. ET, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), cofounder of the Electrification Caucus and member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, will participate in a webinar hosted by the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment that will highlight some of the latest research on building electrification as a critical climate solution.

The virtual event titled, Electrification of the Building Sector: Constructing an Equitable Transition, will feature keynote remarks from Senator Heinrich, a leader on electrification in Congress. It will also include a panel of science and technology experts discussing options, progress, and barriers for building decarbonization. Topics include: cutting-edge energy system technologies, efficient building best-practices, reducing household appliance methane emissions, and resulting financial implications for consumers. The conversation will focus not only on the technology but also on assuring that the transition puts a priority on equity and justice.

Broad electrification will be critical to achieving proposed national and global goals of net-zero carbon emissions required to combat climate change. The Build Back Better Act includes language from Senator Heinrich's Zero-Emission Homes Act to provide rebates for the purchase and installation of electric appliances and equipment in single-family homes and multifamily buildings, with additional support for low- and moderate- income households. Senator Heinrich also introduced the Electrifying America's Future Resolution to advance the vision of widespread electrification in the U.S. In a guest essay in The New York Times, he called for electrifying large parts of the U.S. economy and changing the supply of that electricity from polluting fuels to clean energy.
