Advocacy opportunity for legislation related to safe waterways

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (https://www.sccf.org/) and The Calusa Waterkeepers ( https://calusawaterkeeper.org/ ) have joined forces to support the passage of legislation under consideration by the State of Florida (SB 604/HB 393).

The proposed bill is entitled the Safe Waterways Act in the Senate and Public Bathing Places in the House. These identical bills, if they become law, will expand public notice of unsafe or contaminated recreational waterways.

Currently the State requires pollution notices for coastal beaches and a small set of public boat ramps. However, this is not the case for more than 9,000 miles of rivers and streams and 1 million acres of coastal estuaries.
