Spring gallery and screening

In conjunction with the Donald Blake Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, and Culture, the Clyde and Mary Harris Gallery of Walla Walla University is proud to present a collection of contemporary prints this spring from the Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts (CSIA). WWU's Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center will be hosting both the gallery and a documentary screening featuring artist Wendy Red Star.

On Wednesday April 24, a screening of documentary "Artist Talk: Wendy Red Star'' from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) will be shown at 7 p.m. in room 208 of the Fine Arts Center. Wendy Red Star is a Native American artist whose art is influenced by her cultural heritage; she works with a variety of media including photography, sculpture, video, fiber arts, and performance art.

From April 18 to May 10, the spring gallery will display prints from the Crow's Shadow artist-in-residency program. Each year, three to six artists are invited to the CSIA studio for two weeks to develop limited-edition prints, which are then hand-pulled by the studio's Tamarind-trained master printer. WWU presents these prints to highlight how this program supports the professional development of artists of color, particularly indigenous artists.

The Clyde and Mary Harris Gallery will be open to the public Monday through Thursday at 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m., and Friday at 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or by appointment in the Melvin K. West Fine Arts Center, 204 S. College Ave., College Place.
