TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
May 25, 2020
Teenager Killed in East Baton Rouge Parish Crash
The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Cammack and his two passengers were traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 in a 2016 Dodge Journey. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge ran off the roadway to the left and crossed the median. After crossing the median, the vehicle then struck a bridge guardrail bordering the southbound lanes of travel on US Hwy 61.
Cammack was properly restrained at the time of the crash; however, sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. The passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Impairment is unknown at this time, but an autopsy and toxicology report will be completed by the coroner's office. This crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants in a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.
